Trip To Africa

JULY 30 2014

My first trip to Africa was for the IASJ summer meeting at the University of Cape Town and the Standard Bank National Jazz Festival in Grahamstown. I performed with the “Cape Town Saxophone Quartet” playing some music from the MSQ repertoire and other originals, and also in the festival all-star big band, backing up vocalist Tutu Puoane. She’s amazing – definitely worth checking out the recording “Mama Africa” she did with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra.

Frost was impressively represented at the IASJ summer workshop in Cape Town by Neil Carson, Nick Hetko, and Ben Tiberio. Needless to say I met many, many great south African musicains – the trip was certainly a transformative experience!
